SaraMiller_web_2023 (1)In this edition of our Employee Spotlight, we are excited to introduce you to Sara Miller. Sara joined MetrumRG in 2021 as a science writer. She completed her PharmD at the University of Connecticut, where she co-founded the CPE-accredited practice-based Medical Writing Certificate Program. Before joining MetrumRG, Sara worked as a freelance medical writer, contributing to publications like Pharmacy Times and Contemporary Clinic. Her passion for writing and promoting science drives her work at MetrumRG.

What is your role at MetrumRG?

“My role as a Science Writer II is within the Science Communications group. Our team ensures that all scientific deliverables meet MetrumRG standards through rigorous editorial and technical quality control as well as providing writing support. Recently, I led a writing workshop on optimal report writing, tailoring content for each science group at MetrumRG. We also manage platforms that support our scientists, such as the Knowledge Base, reference management system, and report signing process.”

What do you like most about working at MetrumRG?

“I enjoy the variety and unique challenges each day brings, and I get to work with great people from different groups across MetrumRG.”

Which of MetrumRG's core values is the most important to you and why?

“Innovation and service stand out to me. Working with people who have innovative ideas and the determination to overcome barriers is incredibly inspiring. We all share a common goal of helping patients, and we carefully consider the best approaches to serve clients and patients. I'm proud of our commitment to service, including developing open-source materials like R packages and Expos to improve educational content access in the pharmacometrics community. Our team also supports the broader community through donations, raising awareness for rare diseases, and aiding patients with unmet needs.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

“I spend a lot of time with my nieces, Olivia (7) and Ava (10 months), enjoying outdoor activities like nature walks, trampoline jumping, and drawing with chalk. I also love to travel, hike, and swim in the ocean. Recently, I started teaching English to ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students at the local library, which has quickly become one of my favorite pastimes.”

What is currently #1 on your bucket list?

“Visiting New Zealand is at the top of my list because my friend recently moved there, and I would love to explore its attractions and beautiful scenery.”

Do you have any pets? If so, please tell us about them.

“I have a cat named Yoshi. I adopted him from a shelter about a year ago when he was a tiny kitten. Watching him grow has been super fun. He has a lot of personality, including his unique habit of sleeping on his back with his belly up. Sometimes, he even makes celebrity appearances on my Zoom calls, showing off his climbing skills on my chair!”

What is your favorite quote?

"Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right."

If working out is a priority for you, what is your workout of choice?

“I enjoy switching up my workouts, including running, weight lifting, and yoga.”

Do you have a nickname you're comfortable sharing with us? If so, is there a story behind it?

“My college friends call me Smill. It’s a simple story: there were multiple girls named Sara(h) in the same building, so my nickname became a combination of my first and last name.”

If you could have dinner with anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

“I would love to have dinner with Katherine Johnson, the mathematician known for her role at NASA on Project Apollo, where her calculations supported the first moon landing. My childhood dream was to be an astronaut, and my mom took me to NASA museums where I was inspired by pioneers like Katherine Johnson.”

What others say about Sara:

“Sara is an indispensable member of our Science Communication group which contributes to a diverse range of tasks at MetrumRG. With workload, priorities, and timelines constantly evolving and shifting, Sara frequently demonstrates her excellent ability to anticipate and adapt to these changing, and occasionally conflicting, needs. Always willing and enthusiastic to tackle new challenges within, not just our group, but also different groups within MetrumRG (including the speaker series and the DEIB committee). On projects, Sara continually impresses me with her ability to work quickly and conscientiously to review complex scientific deliverables and provides valuable, insightful, and thoughtful contributions to all our project deliverables, often while working within tight timelines. I’m very grateful Sara joined MetrumRG, and it’s a pleasure to work so closely with her.”
