We recently had the chance to sit down with Seth Green, who began his journey with MetrumRG in January 2020 and has been an essential leader in the Data Science group. Seth has a diverse background spanning machine learning, applied statistics, big data engineering, and data visualization. He  also brings experience in software engineering, having developed tools and platforms for both the digital advertising and scholarly publishing industries. Before diving into data science, Seth spent nearly a decade touring as a professional musician, adding a unique edge to his technical expertise.

Tell us about your role at MetrumRG?

As the head of the Data Science team, I have the privilege of working with incredible colleagues across the company. Our main goal is to bridge the gap between Technology Solutions (TS) and Quantitative Sciences (QS). This means ensuring our scientists get the most out of the technology available to them while making sure the tools developed by Tech Solutions are driven by deep scientific expertise.

What do you like most about working at MetrumRG?

Without a doubt, the people. It’s rare to feel such a strong sense of community in a remote setting, but MetrumRG has managed to foster that. The commitment here to support each other and make this a truly rewarding place to work is incredible.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Music is a big part of my life—it energizes me in so many ways. I love playing guitar and singing, as well as improvising on the piano. I’m always on the lookout for new music that inspires me and I enjoy sharing my favorites with others. Outside of music, I spend a lot of time with my wife and two kids. We love being in nature, playing imaginary games, cooking, and having meals together. We also have a weekly family movie night, which is a big highlight for all of us. Nimona and Studio Ghibli films are family favorites, and we enjoy a lot of modern Disney too, especially the ones with great musical numbers!

What was the last TV show you binge-watched?

I recently finished Kaos, a modern take on Greek mythology. Jeff Goldblum as Zeus was fantastic. The visuals were stunning, and I really appreciated how the modern setting brought new depth to these ancient characters.

Do you have any pets?

We do! We have a dog named Coop, who’s a hound mutt from the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). He’s a sweetie and mostly well-behaved, except when he finds an open gate or door. If he does, he’ll take off on an adventure for hours, but so far, he always comes back—though it makes us a little nervous every time!
